These illustrations are just as important as the words on the page. While most children start out with picture books, they can be beneficial for learners of all ages.
Let’s look at the specific reasons why kids (and adults) love picture books so much.
Picture Books are:

Non-threatening
Some children can be overwhelmed with the amount of text on pages or the overall size of books. Picture books are inviting to children, as they are typically shorter in length and contain less (or even sometimes no) words.
Engaging
Picture books draw children in with bright and colorful pictures. Motivating children to read is arguably the most important factor to consider when thinking about children’s literacy. Picture books can help develop a love of reading, which they will hopefully carry with them their entire lives.
Develop language
Picture books expose children to rich language and vocabulary. Early exposure to language has a profound impact on children’s learning throughout life.
Create meaning
The pictures may explain elements of stories including plot that children may not understand from the words alone.
Bonding time
Reading picture books with children of all ages is a wonderful way to connect and create relationships.
