Color Sensory Bag

Age Group: 
  • Infant
  • Toddler
Objectives:
  • Students will compare colors through a sensory bag experience and strengthen fine motor skills. 

Please provide appropriate supervision to the children in your care when completing all activities. You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your care.  Always use caution with anything that young children might put in their mouths. 

CDA Competency Standard: ​
II.4.4b
  • Candidate’s facilitation promotes children’s physical development
b) Guides the development of children’s fine and gross motor skills
Materials: 
  • 1 Gallon Size ZipLoc Bag
  • Duct Tape
  • Hair Gel
  • Buttons in two colors

Procedure: 
  1. Place the hair gel and buttons into the ZipLoc bag. Press the air out of the bag and seal the bag tightly. Fold duct tape around all 4 sides of the bag for security purposes.
  2. Sit with the child and help them squish and push the colored buttons around the bag. Talk to them about the colors and begin helping them sort them with similar colors. 
Assessment: 
  • Assess the child’s fine motor skills.
  • Assess older children’s sorting and classifying of the objects.
