Toddler Treasure Hunt
Please provide appropriate supervision to the children in your care when completing all activities. You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your care.  Appropriate and reasonable caution should be used when providing art and sensory experiences for children.

Age Group: ​ 
  • Toddlers
Objectives:
  • Children will discover hidden items in playdough while exercising their small motor skills
CDA Competency Standard:   
II.4.2a
Activities and materials encourage children of varying abilities to develop their small muscles.
  • a) Individual fine motor skills are encouraged through a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and activities
Materials:  
  • Playdough
  • Plastic coins
  • Plastic jewels

Make sure that you use items that are large enough that they do not pose a choking hazard.
Procedure: 
  • Put several coins in a ball of playdough and encourage children to pinch and pull the playdough apart in order to find the coins hidden in the dough. 
Assessment:  
  • Observe and record children’s ability to use small muscle groups when finding the coins.
